Water in Your Basement? The first 2 Things to Look For – Boston, MA

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, June 09, 2016

If you walk downstairs only to find water in the basement, you need to call a pro to solve the problem. But you also need to find out how the water got there. The first thing you should do is look up and then look down. You want to see if there are any pipes leaking or if there is any condensation on the ceiling. The pipes are cold and the temperature is warm, this creates condensation. The second thing you want to do is go over to your furnace or air conditioning unit. See if the little box next to it, the condensation pump, is working properly. They can tend to overflow.

If it is one of these two issues you can fix it. If you have a problem with a condensation pump, you can buy one at Home Depot, or you can call an HVAC repair company to fix it for you. If you have a pipe that is leaking, turn off the water and call a plumber. If it is pipe condensation, you can buy some foam insulation to put around it.
